VENDARGUES

FEBRUARY 10, 2024

Madam President of the Occitanie Region,
Madam Vice-President of the Occitanie Region,
Mr President of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, Mayor of Montpellier,
Mr Mayor of Vendargues,
Ladies and Gentlemen, elected officials,
Mr Cultural Advisor to the General Secretariat for Investment,
Mr President of the National Centre for Cinema and the Moving Image,
Madam Chairwoman and Chief Executive Officer of France Télévisions,
Mr President of Proudreed,
Madam President of V Studios,
Mr Director of the Cinema Department of the Agence Unique, Occitanie Culture,
Madam Head of Programming, Communication and Educational Activities of the Cinemed Festival,
Mr Executive Producer,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

First of all, I would like to sincerely thank you for your invitation. It is a great pleasure for me to inaugurate today the new V Studios facilities. This is a key piece of infrastructure that further strengthens the audiovisual and cultural attractiveness of the Hérault department.

This inauguration very concretely illustrates the momentum that has been underway in our region for several years: a sustained commitment by the State, alongside all stakeholders, to the ambitious development of the cultural and creative industries.

Strongly structured around the Montpellier metropolitan area, this trajectory is built on a dense ecosystem bringing together companies, talents, training institutions and production facilities, making Hérault a leading hub at the regional level and one that is recognized nationally. The department accounts for 27% of all cultural and creative industry companies in Occitanie and 28% of the sector’s workforce, ranking second in the region, just behind Haute-Garonne.

Within this ecosystem, the audiovisual sector plays a central role. Hérault has established itself as a major territory for national audiovisual production. Thanks to the quality of its infrastructure, the presence of recognized companies and professionals, the commitment of local authorities, and a particularly favorable climate for outdoor shooting, it now hosts a significant share of French television productions, including daily series, scripted shows and feature films.

Public service broadcasting naturally holds a leading position here. Through its channels, radio stations and digital platforms, it fulfills an essential mission: to inform, to support creation, and to showcase the diversity of our territories. Productions from France Télévisions are therefore naturally intended to be hosted on these stages, with V Studios being part of the group through its subsidiary, France TV Studio.

That said, the project has been designed with an open approach: these facilities are intended to welcome all producers and creators, both national and international, from cinema to fiction, from documentaries to advertising, including short films. Everyone will find their place here.

This positioning is rooted in the ability of public service media to produce and distribute content that informs, educates and brings people together, while contributing to France’s cultural influence.

The current momentum in the audiovisual sector now extends beyond filming alone: it encompasses the entire value chain, from production to post-production, reflecting the industrial maturation of the sector and its lasting integration into the local economy.

The new studios we are inaugurating today are fully part of this trajectory. With V Studios, the region is equipping itself with a modern, innovative and competitive production tool, capable of hosting ambitious French and international projects, and meeting the artistic, technical and environmental requirements of contemporary creation.

Thanks to these new facilities, shooting capacities in Vendargues are set to double. Beyond performance alone, this true “image village” also stands out for its commitment: it is the first eco-responsible production site in France, designed from the outset with sustainable materials.

I firmly believe that no public policy can succeed without dialogue, without listening, and without being grounded in the realities of local territories. Audiovisual creation itself reminds us that it requires time, investment, skills, and a great deal of collective intelligence to bring high-quality works and lasting success to life. It is in this spirit that the V Studios project has been developed.

Here in Vendargues, images are not only produced: they are conceived, crafted and projected as a driver of development for an entire territory.

The State has chosen to strongly support this project, in line with national priorities in terms of cultural sovereignty, innovation, and territorial reindustrialization.

In this regard, State support mobilized under the France 2030 program for the V Studios project amounts to nearly €6 million, out of a total investment of €33.5 million, representing close to 18% in public funding.

This commitment reflects a strong conviction: investing in cultural and creative industries means investing simultaneously in employment, innovation, territorial attractiveness, and the cultural influence of our country. By supporting creation, the State is choosing to invest in the future of our territories.

France 2030 thus supports structuring projects that prepare for the future: high-performance facilities, cutting-edge technological tools, and sectors capable of generating value, skilled employment, and sustainable economic impact at both local and regional levels.

These projects are already producing very tangible and positive effects at the departmental level: job creation, reliance on local service providers, dynamic training opportunities, tourism attractiveness, and the strengthening of the territory’s image.

I would like to commend the commitment, vision and foresight of the V Studios project leaders, who have successfully designed a facility that meets the contemporary challenges of audiovisual creation and the expectations of the sector.

I would also like to thank the local authorities who have been fully mobilized in supporting this project from the very beginning, as well as all public and private partners who contributed to its realization.

The inauguration of these studios marks an important milestone, but above all it opens up new perspectives: more numerous, more diverse and more ambitious productions, and a lasting strengthening of Hérault’s position among France’s leading territories for audiovisual creation.

I sincerely hope that V Studios will continue to grow and strengthen its trajectory as a place of creation, innovation and success, serving artists, technicians, companies, and more broadly, the cultural influence of our country.

Thank you.
